EFSA halves acceptable daily intake of Brown HT- E 155

In its ongoing re-evaluation of all food additives authorised for use in the European Union, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has halved the previous Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) of the food colour Brown HT- E 155 to 1.5 milligrams per kilogram of bodyweight. This is said to be due to "slightly reduced weight gain" found in animals following long-term exposure to Brown HT.
